Sport & The Law Conference

The event was hosted by Manchester United and sponsored by Eversheds LLP and Prosperity International Sports Management. All profits from the event were donated to Cancer Research UK.
The conference featured leading speakers such as Gordon Taylor, CEO of the PFA; Maurice Watkins, Solicitor - Director of Manchester United; Patrick Stewart, Legal Director of Manchester United; Nick Craig, Head of Legal at The Football League; Jacques Meseca, Eversheds Paris; John Norman, BDO and Robert Heslett, President of The Law Society. The event was chaired by Edward G. Smethurst, the Sale Sharks Legal Director and Chairman of the Commerce & Industry Group in the North West.
Edward Smethurst commented as follows: "We were delighted with the attendance at the conference and the dinner with the event being a sell out. Everyone who attended was highly complimentary and we plan to make this an annual event. Sport is big business and an important part of the economy in the North West. Many of the leading football clubs in the North West attended and we also raised a significant amount of money for Cancer Research UK."
